Sharpstown High School's

English Masters

Visit La Griglia

Tuesday, October 16, 2013

Accompanied by most of the ELA department faculty, Mr. Downs, and Mr. Gasparello, twenty-one students were honored at La Griglia on Tuesday, October 16th for their accomplishments in their English class.  The group from Sharpstown was treated to a wonderfully, elegant, three-course meal and then listened to the motivational urgings of Mr. Allen Hooker.

Below, each student is pictured individually with information from their teacher about the reason(s) they were chosen.  Make sure to visit the linked IMAGES page to view pictures taken at the event.

Paola Alcantar:  Paola has turned in every single assignment for the first unit; She has also maintained the highest grade of any student across all of my English classes. She honors herself, her family, and her school every day and always puts forth her best effort.

Laurynce Andrus:

is a young man more mature than his years reflect. He comes to class with a positive attitude, a willingness to work, and an eagerness to read his novel every day. He is a very polite young man who respects himself and consistently does his personal best.
Sergio Batres:  He participates frequently and is never afraid to ask for help. He’s always willing to help around the classroom and he has a positive attitude. He’s determined to achieve.
Juan Bernal:

Juan is an exceptional 9th grader in that he is self-motivated. I can always depend on Juan to be the first person in the class and working on the focus activity. He always has intelligent questions which shows that he is thinking deeply about the material and working his way through the process of internalizing it. His aspirations are clearest in his choice of friends. Juan prefers to sit and work with the upperclassman who are also in the class as opposed to his ninth grade peers.

Joacim Castro:

Joacim is a Class-A student. He is dedicated to success and it is obvious in everything that he undertakes. He always works diligently in order to complete tasks. He is a student who shows he is eager to learn.

Anaya Comer:

Anaya is a wonderful representation of the Apollo Creed. She is helpful with other students, on topic in class discussions, stellar in her completion of class assignments, and overall, very sweet and kind to her classmates.

Kaila Frenney:  Wonderful academic student, who always arrives on time and prepared to work. She is always the first one working in class. She never turns in late assignments, and is a silent role model in class.
Michelle Gonzales:

Each day both students arrive , on time prepared for class, with smiles on their faces and displaying great attitudes. They are willing to help the teacher with errands ,organizational tasks, or peers in the classroom that may need extra help to understand a concept with the lesson. Each student consistently live the Apollo Creed and lead the class in reciting it daily. I see greatness in each of their future endeavors as they complete their studies here at Sharpstown and attend then graduate from college. These young ladies exhibit their parents’ expectations with wonderful manners and behaviors. It is a pleasure to nominate them for as candidates for the Master’s Dinner Award .

Jesus Guerrero: is a wonderful young man who works hard every day to set a good example for others. His grades, attitude, and work ethic are second to none. He is an A student and is extremely intellectual and continues to make good decisions on a daily basis. He definitely deserves this honor and I am proud to be his English teacher.
Ashley Guzman:

Ashley has consistently demonstrated her commitment to learn and perform at her best. Although quiet and reserved, Ashley serves as a shining example for the other students in her table group. She epitomizes a student of excellence.

Cristhian Guzman:  Cristhian has turned in every single assignment for the first unit; he is always on task and stays focused on what he needs to do. He asks for help when he needs it and takes pride in the work he does. He has one of the highest grades across all classes.  Maya Jabateh:  Maya goes above and beyond every day. She accepts nothing less than perfection and will continue to succeed for the rest of her life.
Corshay Jackson:

Corshay is always on her game. She knows what she must do to accomplish her goals. She is a masterful student who completes her work in class and at home in order to ensure her goals that she sets for herself are met and/or surpassed.

Tommy Menchaca:  is known as my silent assassin in class. He is quiet as a mouse, but his leadership is as strong as a Lions. Tommy finishes all his work and strives to make it better on a daily basis. He helps others at his table, has not missed a single class day and is usually the first one at my door during eighth period. He has mastered his FATE!  Jorge Morales: deserves the award because he always tries his best and pays attention, and also help others. He always keeps his grades high and truly cares about living the Apollo Creed. He is very inquisitive and always asks questions and participates in class activities. He is a true leader and most students follow in his footsteps.
